Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R Review
As far as crotch rockets go, the Kawasaki ZX6R has some of the newest and best technology of the motorcycle world. The 2005 ZX6R and the 2006 ZX6R models are some of the best years that Kawasaki produced the Ninja. This is because it had a 636cc engine, thus earning the name ZX636. A new 05-06 model would be hard to find these days, but used ones range from around 5-6 thousand dollars depending on the mileage. Usually you can find low millage used ones for extremely cheap compared to new models.
The ZX6R model features a sleek all digital tachometer as well as speedometer. The exhaust for the bike is similar to Honda’s CBR, thus coming out the rear of the bike under the seat. Some passengers found this to be a bad thing as the seat got extremely hot at times. One downside of all Ninjas; even the newer 2007-2008 ZX6Rs is the rear turn signals and tail lights. The bulky reflectors and license plate hang down making it unappealing to the average consumer. Many Kawasaki enthusiasts opt for a fender eliminator kit which can be purchased off eBay for under $50. Other cosmetic flaws with the Ninja ZX6R are the turn signals sticking out. There are after market turn signals which are integrated into the fairings for the front. The fender eliminator kit will remove the back signals and turn your tail lights into both tail lights and turn signals.
Overall the ZX6R is a great motorcycle for both an experienced, or novice rider. The 6 speed manual transmission with 113 horsepower flies down the road and can easily power wheelie in first gear, and second as well if you push down and pull back. It will easily do 0-60 in less than 4 seconds (closer to 3) with ease, with first gear being able to wind out to around 80 MPH. Most of the power in the ZX6R is in the 0-120 range. After that it appears acceleration slows down greatly. The max speed depends on the weight of the rider; however, typically I can obtain 177 MPH as a top speed.
